Stettler and District Music Festival launches into its 47th year

Musicians from all over Stettler, Stettler County and some of the neighbouring counties will be converging on Stettler this week.

Musicians from all over Stettler, Stettler County and some of the neighbouring counties will be converging on Stettler this week as today, April 13, marks the start of the annual Stettler and District Music Festival.

Now in its 47th year, the annual festival has grown from a three-day festival to one spanning 10 days, with more than 700 entries in vocal, piano, musical theatre, choral, school chorus and speech arts, said Rhonda Sylvester, festival vice-president.

Dance is no longer part of the festival, and hasn't been for about three years, Sylvester said, as the dancing community now holds its own separate competition.

Performances take place in two locations in Stettler. Performances take place throughout the 10-day period at either the Stettler Performing Arts Centre (PAC) adjacent to William E. Hay Secondary Campus or at the Stettler Alliance Church at 6109 41 Ave.

A full schedule is available on the Stettler and District Musical Festival website, found at www.stettlermusicfestival.com.

The Grand Concert, which features the best acts from all the festival, will take place at the PAC at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, bringing the event to a close.
