Seatbelt enforcement remains a priority

A 34-year-old female from the Kikino, AB district was arrested on March 10 for uttering threats against a Stettler resident. She was compelled to appear on April 22 in Stettler Provincial Court to enter a plea.

On the same day, a 40- year-old Big Valley resident was arrested for uttering threats and harassment. He was released to appear in Stettler Provincial Court on April 22 to enter pleas.

VANDALISM AND THEFT

On March 8, a building in the 4800 block of 54 Street in Stettler had graffiti painted on it.

On March 11, overnight, a vehicle was damaged after it was badly scratched while parked in the 6100 block of 47 Avenue in Stettler.

A vehicle parked in the 4900 block of 53 Street in Stettler had fuel stolen from its tank on March 14.

SEATBELTS

The traffic focus for March continues to be seatbelts.

About 20 tickets have been issued to date at a cost of $115 to each violator. Did you know that seatbelts increase your chances of surviving a crash by 50 per cent? According to Transport Canada, almost 40 per cent of people killed in collisions were not buckled up.

Last year, the only fatal collision near Stettler involved an unrestrained driver who was thrown out of his vehicle during a rollover.
