RCMP said a man needed emergency care after an apparent shooting incident at Red Deer’s south Walmart on Friday evening.

A dozen police cars blocked off all access to Walmart’s parking lot and police tape was strung up along the south end of the lot.

One shopper, who was inside the store at the time of the incident around 7 p.m., said she was told there was a shooting outside the store.

“One of the employees said someone had been shot in the chest,” she said.

Shoppers and staff were not allowed to take the cars from the lot. Around 8:30 p.m. people were allowed to leave through a back north door at the store.
