A rare celestial sight is now being used to help raise further funds for those displaced by the wildfire in Fort McMurray.

A rare celestial sight is now being used to help raise further funds for those displaced by the wildfire in Fort McMurray.

Amateur photographer and astronomer Richard W. Schulz took photos of the "very rare" sight of Mercury transiting the sun on May 9. The best of the photos was transferred to a 20x24-inch metal photo plate, which is up for auction.

The photograph is on display at Rainbow Photo Lab on Main Street in Stettler until June 1, and bids can be placed at the business.

"This is an excellent conversation piece for your home, business or office," Shulz said. "All proceeds will go to help the folks of Fort McMurray."
