Police ask for vehicles to be locked

CPL. TERRY BEST/RCMP Stettler

Now that the snow is almost gone, drivers are getting their first taste of bare pavement and for police this has brought an increase in driving complaints. Over the past week police responded to a number of speeding and noisy vehicles while one citizen called to complain that one driver has been using walking trails to drive on. April is speed enforcement month and police will be making every effort to be out enforcing these infractions.

On April 8, a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire was stolen from the rear of a residence on 5000 block of 46 Street. Thieves abandoned the vehicle a short distance away on 61 Street and then made off with a 2007 Chevrolet extended cab truck. The truck was abandoned on the ring road. Police are following up on information that two youths were seen in the area over night. Several vehicles in the area were also rummaged through and a number of items taken.

On April 8 an overhead door to a business in the 47 block of 50 Street was damaged. There are no suspects.

On April 9 a citizen on 61A Street reported speakers were stolen from his vehicle where it was parked and it is believed thieves attempted to take rims as well.

Complaints of thefts from vehicles were also received from residents on 60 Street and Spruce Drive. GPS units, cell phones, CDs and money comprise the loot. Thieves appear to be targeting vehicles left open. Police are encouraging residents to lock up their vehicles to prevent losses.

On April 11, a Stettler resident from Spruce Close reported his vehicle was entered and thieves made off with a camera, Swiss Army knife and some loose change.

On April 11 police responded to a fight on 50 Street involving two teenage males. One of the youths was injured, however, the injuries are not believed to be serious and police are continuing to investigate.

On April 11 a female resident in the Emmerson Acres area reported to police that she was threatened. Police are investigating.

On April 12 a resident of Red Willow reported his vehicle was entered while it was parked in front of his residence and his wallet and cell phone were taken.

During the week police also responded to eight false alarms, two cases of failing to remain at collision sites, and a number of family disputes.
