Police admire sober motorists

TRESPASS

A Stettler resident reported finding tracks of a trespasser walking around her home on Jan.1

It was then observed that the culprit had been walking in and out of numerous yards in the 4700-block of 49 Street.

IMPAIRED DRIVING

Two impaired drivers were apprehended on Dec 24, one on 53 Street, the other on 51 Avenue in Stettler. Poor driving attracted police attention in both cases.

A 21-year-old male from Stettler and a 29-year-old male from Botha were charged with impaired driving and will appear in Stettler Provincial Court on Jan 14 to enter pleas.

On Dec 30 at 12 noon, a vehicle and driver were located in the ditch north of Stettler along Highway 56. After a short investigation the driver, a 67-year-old Stettler resident, was arrested and released to appear in Stettler Provincial Court on Feb 11 to enter a plea to a criminal charge of failing to provide adequate samples of breath on a roadside screening device.

New Year’s Eve was policed with extra RCMP staff. The drivers in and around Stettler are to be commended for their responsible attitudes.

Although many motorists were delayed during police Checkstops no one was arrested for impaired driving and no drivers were issued 24-hour suspensions.

VANDALISM

A vehicle parked in the 5300-block of 51 Street in Stettler suffered damage when it was extensively scratched on Dec. 29.

THEFTS

On Dec 16 at 5 p.m. in the 4900-block of 51 Street in Stettler ,a 44-year-old male was arrested for possession of stolen property. Police were dealing with the subject on other matters when it became evident that the vehicle present was in fact stolen.

The male resides in the County of Stettler near Botha and was also arrested for outstanding criminal warrants from the jurisdictions of Medicine Hat, Redcliff and Stettler. Recovered was a 2005 gold Ford F350 Truck, stolen near Castor on March 26, 2008.

A construction crew in the 5400-block of 50 Avenue in Stettler reported apprehending a culprit they accused of stealing equipment on Dec. 22. Police attended and arrested a 33-year-old male from Innisfail who will face a charge of theft in Stettler Provincial Court on Feb 11.

A Stettler retailer apprehended a shoplifter on Dec. 22. Police arrested a 60-year-old male residing in the County of Stettler who was released to enter a plea to one theft charge in court on Feb 11.

Another retailer apprehended a shoplifter on Dec. 24. Police arrested a 46-year-old female from Stettler who will face one charge of theft in local court on Feb 11.

A boat, motor and trailer were stolen from private property in the northwest area of the County of Stettler, taken sometime between Dec 12 and 27. Stolen was a 2006 white and black 23-foot Larson LXI228 powerboat with a 350 HP Mercury outboard motor, on a 2005 black EZ Loader EXL4000 trailer.

A home was reported broken into in the 4900-block of 53 Street in Stettler between Dec 23 and 28. The suspect(s) stole a computer, jewellery and a jar of loose change.

A 46-inch Sony television set was stolen from a home in the northeast part of the county on Jan. 1.

A business in the 4600-block of 50 Street in Stettler fell victim to an attempted break-in Dec. 4 with only a door and frame damaged.
