Stettler Elementary will have a new principal when the students return to school this fall.

With the impending retirement of principal Sharon Fischer at the end of the school year, Clearview was on the hunt for a replacement.

According to a media release put out by Clearview on April 5, the school board’s senior administration team interviewed a number of strong candidates before making their selection.

Ultimately, administration has appointed a teacher with a decade of Clearview experience, eight years at Stettler Elementary School (SES) and who is current vice principal, into the upcoming vacancy.

“Kate (Syson) is passionate about SES. She is well-loved and respected in the school and community,” said superintendent Brenda MacDonald, via a written release.

“We are confident in Kate’s leadership and we are excited to see her in action as she takes on this new role.”

Syson has been teaching for 16 years.

“I have been dreaming about this opportunity,” said Syson.

“I feel like SES is my home and I deeply care about all the students that call this place their school, and for the staff who work at SES.”

Clearview’s senior administration team selected Syson after surveying and meeting with SES staff and parents to investigate priorities for the future of the school.

“I would like to thank Sharon Fischer for teaching and guiding me, over the years as her vice principal,” said Syson.

“I recognize that I have big shoes to fill when she retires … I would like to thank Brenda MacDonald; she has been an inspirational female leader in my life … I am so grateful.”

Syson officially takes over as principal of SES at the end of the school year.
