• Bylaws to allow auto recyclers proceed despite much opposition
Land-use and zoning bylaws to allow an auto recycling business to operate along Highway 56 on the northern gateway of the Town of Stettler remain on track despite opposition from Reeve Earl Marshall, two councillors, the Town of Stettler and several neighbouring property owners.

Construction in the Town of Stettler has significantly declined to $3,300,461 for the first half of this year, compared to $14,128,066 in the same period in 2009 while the County of Stettler has increased to $7,653,192, from $6,233,439 from last year.

• Prospects bleak for auto recycling business
Town of Stettler has resolved to protect the integrity of the intermunicipal development plan (IDP) with the County of Stettler by opposing an application by Jim Nibourg of East Central Auto Recyclers to locate on a new site on Highway 56 north of town although the town council, reeve and two councillors oppose the land-use bylaw that passed second reading.

• Stettler wastewater facility expands to meet growth
Plans have been launched to upgrade the Town of Stettler wastewater treatment facility at a total cost of $2.6 million to meet the growing needs of the community with funding of $1.4 million from the Canada-Alberta Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.

The second annual Stettler Steel-Wheel Stampede drew over 350 competitors, including about 100 local, and earned top reviews from competitors, organizers, local municipal councils and spectators as the weekend featured a Saturday night concert by award-winning Canadian country music star Gord Bamford.

Dick Richards narrowly retained his seat as mayor of the Town of Stettler in municipal elections as he beat challenger Will Brown 689-662. County of Stettler Reeve Earl Marshall was unseated in the Warden division as James Nibourg led the way with 143 votes, followed by Marshall with 66 and Danny Riggins with 30.
