Those searching for activities to do this Canada Day aren’t going to have to go too far.

While Castor doesn’t typically do much for events, the community’s neighbours to the north do.

Alliance is bringing back its annual sports day for 2022, complete with a parade starting with a show and shine kicking off at 10 a.m. and a parade at 11 a.m.

A Gymkhana will take place after the parade while a mixed slow pitch tournament will run all day.

The Alliance Museum will be open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and the kids are, including a bounce House, will open then as well.

A food concession and a variety of downtown businesses will be open as well throughout the day.

That’s not all that is going on in the area, however.

Heading northwest to the Village of Forestburg, that community is getting in on the action for the the first time in a long while.

Starting things off will be a community breakfast at the Cedars restaurant proceeds going towards the Flagstaff Food Bank.

Following the breakfast, a fun run will be taking place starting from the Forestburg Community Hall.

Friends of the Battle River Railway and the Battle River Railway will be offering mini train excursions.

Over at the Area 53 Raceway, just outside of town, a full day of high-octane racing will be taking place with day one of the Calnash $2,500 racing event, followed by fireworks that evening.

However, there’s more!

Heading west from Forestburg, you come to the Village of Donalda.

Donalda has a longstanding tradition of holding a well done Canada Day event.

The Donalda day will kick off with a pancake breakfast running from 10 a.m. until noon, followed by pie and coffee, hot dogs, and ice cream until 4 p.m.

A kids carnival will be setting up shop, complete with petting zoo, face painting and more beginning at 1 p.m.

The parade will start at 3:30 p.m., followed by a steak supper at 5 p.m. and a live auction at 7 p.m.

Live entertainment will take place throughout the day, and there will be fireworks after dark.
