Rotary Club of Stettler member Carol Nixon was presented with a special award during the service club’s Jan. 31 meeting.
Nixon was presented with Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee award in recognition of her many years of service to Stettler and area.
Involved in events like Farmer’s Night, Taste of Stettler, a multitude of pancake breakfasts, the Ted Connor Memorial Golf Tournament, and “many other projects,” Nixon and her family have been very busy in the community.
Additionally, Nixon has previously sat on the Rotary executive committee and according to Vicki Leuck is still “the person we look to for help and support.”
“This recognition shows that Carol Nixon is truly living the Rotary motto which is ‘service above self” and in doing so is making our community and province a better place for everyone,” Leuck said.
Nixon was presented the medal by current Rotary president Arlene Morton.
Six of Canada’s provinces participated in the Queen’s Platinum Medal program in 2022, Alberta included.
The program was rolled out in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years as Canadian Monarch.
In Alberta, 7,000 medals were allocated and presented across the province.
The Stettler Information and Referral Centre was allocated five of the medals, which were presented in a December ceremony.
