2025 is off to a roaring start at the Stettler Public Library. All our regular programs are back plus we have some informative sessions that will help you start your New Year’s resolutions on a positive foot. Check out all that we have to offer for the next week.
January is Stalking Awareness Month in Canada and the library wants you to know the warning signs and where you can get help. Join Stephanie from the Association of Communities Against Abuse (ACCA) on Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. to learn about how to protect yourself and loved ones against the threat.
Paramedic Nolan Rockwell is back to provide another LifeSaver Duo: Navigating Emergencies session on Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. Nolan will show you how to help someone in a cardiac emergency or accidental opioid poisoning. This is a basic workshop and is not a certificate program.
Children:
Something Cool Instead of School continues with two events planned for Jan. 3. Make a cute glow-in-the-dark snowman bottle at 1 p.m. Then come back at 6 p.m. for an epic battle at our annual Nerf War. You’ll need to pre-register for the Nerf War as we provide pizza. Then join us the next day, Jan. 4, for a fabulous session of creating unique designs with Perler beads at 1 p.m. Ages 6 and up.
Once school is back in session, we’ll be returning to our regularly scheduled program, Something Cool After School, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. Join us on Jan. 7 when we make magic cubes and find out what it’s all about. Then on Jan. 9, we’ll create art prints using old CDs.
Read & Rhyme is back for preschoolers (0-5 yrs) and their parents Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Have fun with us and make new friends as we sing songs, play games and have fun.
Keep the fun of reading gone when you sign your child up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and you can receive a small prize at the library when you reach your family reading goals.
Teens & ’Tweens:
At Teen Scene on Jan. 8, take a little bit of heaven home when you create your own colourful, fizzy bath bombs at this fun DIY workshop for ages 11 and up.
Dungeons & Dragons Night is starting up again on Jan. 7 for youth ages 13 and up. We plan adventures and tell stories while munching snacks. New friends are always welcome.
Adults:
Invest in your own well-being this new year by crafting some luxurious spa stuff with Crystal’s Crafters on Jan. 2 at 6:30 p.m. Please pre-register by calling the library.
Are you a caregiver? Meet with others who have responsibility for a loved one at the Caregiver Support Group on Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. We share concerns and tips for lifting your load.
Living with someone with an alcohol problem has many challenges, but you are not alone. Meet with the folks at Al-Anon who understand and can help you cope on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.
Explore printmaking with a CD to create a unique piece of art with Afternoon Friends on Jan. 7 from 1-3 p.m.
Start the new year with a new habit—join our library book club, Reader’s Circle. This month’s chosen book is Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece by Tom Hanks. We have copies available for you at the library, so be sure to borrow one and take part in our discussion on Jan. 29, 6:30 p.m.
Minds in Motion is back on a new day and time for 2025. Join us on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. for two hours full of exercise for your body and your mind. Developed by the Alzheimer Society, it combines mental stimulation and physical activity in a social environment and is meant for those with early-stage cognitive issues and their care partners.
All Ages:
If you love Nintendo, be sure to join the Super Smash Bros. tournament on Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. Bring a friend, choose your favourite character and duke it out to the end.
Work together with friends to make a fantastic LEGO structure at this week’s LEGO Club on Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. We have everything it takes to create something amazing.
Join us Mondays from 8-9 p.m. for a night of gaming with Stettler and Rocky Mountain House Public Libraries. Get the link from the library to participate in the group chat and be sure to sign up with Nintendo Switch Online so you can be part of the Nintendo games.
