Increase in number of thefts, youth arrested for weapon possession

On March 6 at about 4 p.m., police responded to an apartment in the 6300 block of 40 Avenue in Stettler following a 911 call for assistance.

ASSAULT

On March 6 at about 4 p.m., police responded to an apartment in the 6300 block of 40 Avenue in Stettler following a 911 call for assistance. There they arrested a 22-year- old Stettler male who was charged with forcible confinement and uttering threats. He was remanded in custody to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on March 8 for a bail hearing.

FIREARM

Police responded to a fight at the Plains Motor Inn on March 6 at 6 p.m. police responded to a fight when two males from Edmonton, ages 17 and 19, were arrested. During the search of the 19-year-old, a concealed prohibited weapon, specifically a loaded .25 calibre pistol, was removed from his clothing. He now faces various criminal firearms related offences and will appear in Stettler Provincial Court on March 11.

VANDALISM

On March 4 at approximately 12:10 a.m., trespassers were found on the roofs of buildings located in the 4900 block of 49 Street in Stettler. They had done damage to roof vents and ran off without being apprehended.

THEFT

An oil/gas site in the south west area of the County of Stettler had a building broken into and equipment inside was tampered with on March 2.

On the same day, at 2:45 p.m. gas was stolen from a local service station. A grey Dodge pickup truck drove off without paying for fuel in Stettler.

A stolen vehicle was recovered in the north west area of the County of Stettler on March 3. It had been stolen earlier that night in Red Deer and suffered a broken window and other damage. Two unidentified persons were reported walking away from the scene by a witness.

On March 5, at 9:44 a.m., recyclable cans and bottles were reported stolen from a residence in the 5900 block of 50A Avenue in Stettler. A 14-year-old male youth was arrested and charged with the theft and will appear in Stettler Youth Court at a later date.

A vehicle parked in the 5700 block of 50 Avenue in Stettler was entered on March 7. The owner scared off the culprit.

SEATBELTS

The traffic priority for March is seatbelts. Police will be conducting specific checks for compliance. On March 1, the detachment members issued over 15 tickets for noncompliance. The fine for not wearing your belt, or not wearing it properly is $115.00. Buckle up and live.
