On Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 5:55 p.m., Hanna RCMP responded to a report of a serious two-vehicle collision at the intersection of highways 36 and 570. As a result of the collision, three young people, a female aged 16, an 11-year-old male and a young female infant, have been declared deceased on scene.

Early investigation suggests that an SUV travelling westbound on Hwy. 570 collided with a semi-tractor trailer unit travelling southbound on Hwy. 36.

The driver of the semi was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The driver and adult passenger of the SUV were taken to a Calgary hospital; one via STARS air ambulance and one via ground ambulance. The nature of their injuries is not currently available.

An RCMP collision analyst is attending the collision scene to conduct an investigation into the cause of this collision. All contributing factors will be investigated. Traffic is being moved through an open lane of travel.

No names are being released at the moment as investigation continues.
