One of the biggest fundraisers of the year returned to Halkirk on Feb. 11.

For the 2023 event, the Halkirk Elks Seafood and Comedy Night featured the musical and comedic talents of Alberta musicians Lewis and Royal.

“It was a great night!!!” Elks member Doreen Blumhagen exclaimed in a text message.

“Lewis and Royal are such talented musicians and (told) hilarious stories.”

The supper portion of the evening started at 7 p.m., with the musicians taking the stage 9 p.m.

According to Blumhagen, the 11th-annual event was “virtually sold out,” raising in excess of $3,400 from the silent auction alone which is going back into the local community.

Only 200 tickets for the supper were available for purchase sold at businesses in Castor, Stettler and Halkirk.

In 2022, the Halkirk Elks donated $24,000 back into the region.

One tidbit of trivia Blumhagen passed on from her speech as emcee of the event was that ELKS stands for Eternal Love Kindness and Service.

“I thought that was interesting,” said Blumhagen.

The Halkirk Elks hold several community fundraising events throughout the year including the Bullarama every summer.
