A 49-year-old County of Stettler resident was arrested on Oct. 28 along 50 Avenue in Stettler for impaired driving. He was subsequently charged for impaired driving and possession of a controlled substance, a drug, and will appear in Stettler Provincial Court on Nov. 12 to enter a plea.

TRAFFIC SAFETY

A 49-year-old County of Stettler resident was arrested on Oct. 28 along 50 Avenue in Stettler for impaired driving. He was subsequently charged for impaired driving and possession of a controlled substance, a drug, and will appear in Stettler Provincial Court on Nov. 12 to enter a plea.

More than 14 collisions were investigated during this past week and many involved deer. Police encourage drivers to watch for wildlife on the highways and to slow down in areas where deer are prevalent.

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 46 Street in Stettler on Oct. 30, but the seat-belted drivers only complained of bumps and bruises. The vehicles were seriously damaged and one driver was ticketed for ‘failing to proceed safely after stopping’. A 1996 SUV proceeded east after stopping at a stop sign, striking a northbound 2008 Truck.

During October police focused on seat-belt use. Ten tickets were issued by Detachment members for noncompliance with offenders being fined $115 for each infraction. Traffic Services and the Provincial Sheriffs also gave out an unidentified number of seat-belt tickets.

FARM ACCIDENT

A farm accident resulted in the death of a 79-year- old Botha-area resident on Nov 1. The accident occurred approximately 12 miles southeast of Botha, where some farm equipment fell onto the victim while it was being unloaded. Stettler EMS and police attended. The Alberta Medical Examiner has taken over the investigation. The name is being withheld at the request of the family.

ASSAULT

On Nov. 1, police responded at about 1 a.m. to a local bar in the 5000 block of 50 Street in Stettler, where a male was laying motionless on the ground. The investigation resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old Stettler resident for breaching his conditional sentence order. He was remanded in custody until Nov. 2 when a hearing was to be held in Red Deer Provincial Court as to his custody.

THEFT & VANDALISM

On Oct. 26, overnight, a white 2006 truck was stolen from the 4000 block of 58 Street in Stettler. It was recovered the next day abandoned along 57 Street in Stettler, apparently undamaged after the joy ride.

On Oct. 27, overnight, a vehicle parked in the 5800 block of 51 Avenue in Stettler was rifled through.

A white van, stolen from near Innisfail the day before, was located abandoned on Oct. 28 in Big Valley.

A vehicle parked in the 5300 block of 51 Avenue in Stettler was scratched badly on Oct 30. Also on Oct. 30, overnight, a business along Highway 12 in Erskine had a window broken and the door latch jimmied in an attempted break-in.

A garage was broken into in the northwest area of the County of Stettler on Oct. 31. No items have been determined stolen to date.

Halloween was relatively quiet this year. A handful of residents reported their private property including vehicles were egged during the week prior to, and on Oct. 31.
