A fire ban has been issued across the County of Stettler until further notice.

The ban is in effect as of May 7 due to the recent dry and windy conditions.

It applies to all open fires, camp fires, cooking fires, (briquette barbecues, burning barrels, chimeneas, briquette/propane fire pits) as well as portable fire pits and fireworks.

All outdoor fires presently burning are to be extinguished immediately. Existing fire permits are also suspended at this time, and new ones will not be issued.

The ban does not apply to liquid fueled fires contained in cooking appliances such as barbecues or Coleman stoves, or household fire places with screens to prevent sparks from escaping.

Anyone who sets a fire while the ban is in effect will be responsible for the costs of extinguishing it according to the County of Stettler Bylaw 1487-12.

Charges may also be applicable under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act.
