Sgt. Geoff Buxcey / Bashaw RCMP

The Bashaw RCMP are investigating the fatal collision between a car and motor cycle at the intersection of Highway 12 and Secondary Highway 601 east of the Village of Alix.

The car turned left across the path of the west bound motor cycle causing a collision that threw the driver of the motor cycle from his vehicle. EMS were on the scene within minutes and the driver of the motor cycle was taken by ambulance to Red Deer Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A passenger from the car was also taken to hospital with unknown but non-life threatening injuries.

Weather, road and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in this collision.

With the permission of the family the deceased driver of the motor cycle is identified as 55 year old Darrell Eldon Smith of Lacombe, Alberta.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
