Fatal collision kills young Alix man

A fatal collision – The driver of the pickup truck was killed instantly while three other passengers in that vehicle and five occupants of the 2005 Mustang were all injured in the incident.

Douglas James Young (27) of Alix was killed in a two-car collision in the early hours of Friday, Sept. 3, just 1 km east of the intersection of highways 601 and 835, northwest of Stettler.

Stettler RCMP detachment said their investigation showed that the GMC pickup truck driven by Young was eastbound when it collided with a 2005 Ford Mustang at 3.15 a.m.

There was no other detail regarding the circumstances of the collision.

“Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision but to what extent is still under investigation,” said the RCMP.

The RCMP statement said the pickup truck had three other occupants in addition to the deceased driver at the time of the collision while the passenger car had five occupants.

All of those involved in the collision received injuries of varying degrees.

One person with serious injuries was airlifted by STARS air ambulance while other injured were treated in Camrose and Stettler hopsitals, according to the RCMP statement.

Stettler Fire and EMS attended. Ledcor assisted with traffic control and the highway was closed for a short period of time while the scene was measured by an RCMP Collision Scene Reconstructionist.

The incident is still under investigation.
