Entertainment schedule unveiled

JULIE BERTRAND/Independent reporter

The town of Stettler has unveiled this year’s Entertainment in the park schedule on the town’s website.

There will be 12 concerts, spread over the months of June, July and August.

The schedule is a who’s who of local talent. Out of the twelve artists and bands, five are from around Stettler.

“Every show will be on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the West Stettler Park, except the Canada Day show which won’t obviously be on Wednesday,” said Jacqui Newton, parks and leisure services secretary.

“There won’t be a Wednesday show that week but it will be on Canada Day at 8 p.m. There will be fireworks and cake.”

Newton advises residents to bring lawn chairs, umbrellas and mosquito spray.

“The shows are free and we plan to run the shows rain or shine,” said Newton.

The parks and leisure services department advertised earlier this year to get more artists.

“We were looking to get some quality shows,” said Newton.

“Last year, we worked quite hard at filling the spots.”

The department’s sole criterion for selecting artists was its budget.

“Obviously we have restraints,” said Newton.

Thankfully, the restraints have not stopped the department from being able to get many artists from a wide range of genres.

“We kind of wanted to mix it up this year and get some new entertainment in,“ said Newton.

“But, because of the place where we live, country is obviously a popular choice.”

Residents can vote in an informal poll on the town of Stettler’s website. It asks them who they are looking forward to listening to through the Entertainment in the Park series.
