On Nov. 1, an officer was called out to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a pick-up truck and a tractor towing a manure spreader.
The driver of the pick-up truck, a 22-year-old man, appeared to have rear-ended the tractor, resulting in extensive damage to the truck but thankfully there were no injuries.
Upon further examination, the officer found the truck driver to display signs of impairment, and found marijuana in the vehicle. The man was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and issued a ticket for having cannabis within reach of the driver.
Police say the man continued to exhibit increased signs of impairment and was deemed to require medical attention. The male was transported to the hospital for examination, and later lodged in police cells pending sobriety. A warrant for a sample of the male’s blood was granted and executed, and officers await lab results.
Liquor found on dash
Also on Nov. 1st, yet another report of impaired driving was answered by Rimbey RCMP.
Around midnight, an officer received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road with no lights on. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer found a male asleep in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and open liquor on the dash.
After waking the individual, the officer observed signs of intoxication by alcohol and subsequently arrested the belligerent and aggressive man for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
Due to these, and numerous other events involving impaired driving over the last few weeks, Rimbey RCMP would like to once again remind people that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extraordinarily dangerous and carries many penalties, ranging from criminal charges to provincial sanctions, and often results in deadly consequences.
Impaired driving is completely preventable and its extremely important to plan ahead if you will be consuming intoxicants of any kind. If you have been consuming alcohol or drugs, please do yourself and everyone else a favor and do not get behind the wheel. If you see a driver you suspect is impaired, it is encouraged that you report it as soon as you safely can with a description of the vehicle and the driver, the location, and the direction of travel.
Charity Check Stop coming
Rimbey Victim Services would like to remind the public about their upcoming fundraiser which they are holding in partnership with Rimbey RCMP, the Ponoka County West District Fire Department, and Rimbey Citizens on Patrol.
The 1st Annual Charity Check Stop is happening on Nov. 28th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m on 50th Ave near the 49th Street intersection and is designed to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys, non-perishable food items, or cash from drivers and passersby.
Proceeds collected from this event will go to the Rimbey Food Bank to help members of the community during this holiday season.
