Clearview Public School issued a statement today in regards to the COVID-19 cases that have been identified recently at Donalda School.

“Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to navigate the challenges of COVID-19 and what is best for our students.

“Donalda School has been deemed an alert by Alberta Health Services. The cases we are dealing with starting Friday, March 12 are having a significant impact on our entire school community, with at least 44 per cent of our students needing to isolate as well as several staff members.

“In consultation with Alberta Health Services and Alberta Education, we will be shifting all grades temporarily to online learning beginning Monday, March 15 through March 26, 2021. Please note that there will be no school during spring break beginning Monday, March 29 through Monday, April 5. In collaboration with Alberta Health Services and Alberta Education, we will reassess whether we will move to in-person or continue online learning the weekend prior to April 3rd.

“To assist in the transition, at-home learning will begin on Tuesday, March 16.

“Monday, March 15 will be a non-student day for school staff to plan and prepare for the next two week.

“Instruction and learning opportunities will be offered using a combination of online and paper-based materials. Classroom teachers will provide a detailed schedule so that students will have direct access to them at specified times during the day. This will ensure that we will be able to keep moving forward with the curriculum and continue the strong learning that is happening within classes. The specific details of this class schedule will be communicated to your child in a live Google meet or by a phone call on Monday, March 15th with their homeroom teacher.

“Please contact the school if your child will require technology during the isolation. The school will arrange a place and time for technology pick up. Please also contact the school if there are any belongings that need to be picked up at the school.

“Please know that this decision was not made lightly and as we continue to realize the strains that COVID-19 places on us we need to be flexible with our decision making and put our students and their learning and wellbeing at the center of all conversations and decisions.

“As always, do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, school counsellors, and school administrator for additional support or clarification. While this is a challenging time, we trust you will continue to feel well supported by our staff, school, and district. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.”

With sincere best wishes,

Brenda MacDonald, Superintendent
