It is turning out be a great year for Stettler’s local band Domino as vocals and bass player of the group Luanne Carl was nominated among the top five for the 2016 CCMA Bass Player of the Year.

“On CCMA nomination day the email went out very early in the morning and Kent sent a text to all of us around six in the morning, saying Louis made it to the top five, Louis being my nickname,” said Carl. “I had just woken up as we were in Calgary playing at the Stampede, and all I could do was stare at my phone in disbelief. I’m extremely happy, surprised, and of course so honoured.”

According to Carl, 2016 has been really successful.

“2016 has been our most successful year yet and of course all our hard work has got us here, but we’ve truly set goals, and are working towards them,” added Carl. “Lots of communication, and our incredible manager Angie Morris, have truly gotten us to where we are today.”

A plan of action is what you need, and then working very hard towards that is important, said Carl.

“We have learned to work smarter, and that really has paid off, but the biggest thing for us is that we have got out and met people in the industry,” explained Carl. “Making connections is key in this industry and we feel honoured to have made some incredible friends in this business.”

With a few more months before the end of this year, Carl thinks there is a lot more on the horizon.

“I would love to see the band win Project Wild, or even place in the top three. That would be so awesome,” noted Carl. “We are also releasing a new single to the radio on Aug. 8, and we are very excited about that song. To see that song do very well for us (is a hope).”

Carl said that it is hard for her to put into words what this year musically has meant to her.

“Dreams have been coming true all year long, and with us winning the ACMA Group of the Year and Fan’s Choice, to getting to sing with Carolyn Dawn Johnson in June, radio tours, and singles, videos and shows, and then making it to the Project Wild top 12, and now to the top five in the Bass Player of the Year category for the CCMAs, it has been incredible,” said Carl. “I am so excited and happy for all that has happened this year, but I do not take any of it for granted.”
