The month of December is impaired driving awareness month, and with holiday season in full swing in Alberta, the RCMP want to remind drivers to not drink and drive.

Alcohol, drugs, and fatigue impair reaction time, reflexes, decision-making skills and overall cognitive functions, RCMP said, and getting behind the wheel while impaired puts everyone in danger.

If you plan on attending a holiday celebration where alcohol will be served, plan ahead and arrange for other ways to get home.

If hosting a celebration, have a plan in place to help your guests get home safely, RCMP suggest. Have non-alcoholic beverages available for designated drivers, and encourage people to take a taxi home or find a sober ride if they've been drinking.

If you spot an impaired driver at any time, safely call 911 to report it.
