Due to the ongoing warm and dry weather experienced in the region, Stettler County has imposed an immediate fire ban for all areas.

While the ban is in place, no fire permits shall be issued and all existing permits are suspended as per the Forest and Prairie Protection Act.

The ban requires all currently active open fires to be extinguished, including campfires, briquette barbecues, burn barrels, fireworks and other sources of open flame.

Outdoor cooking appliances, such as propane or natural gas barbecues, portable liquid-fuel fire-pits, and home fireplaces with an appropriate spark arrester in place are not affected by this ban.

Under Stettler County bylaws and the Forest and Prairie Protection Act, anyone who sets a fire contrary to the ban may face criminal charges and-or be responsible for the financial impacts of the fire response.

According to a May 1 release announcing the ban, the ban will remain in effect until further notice.
