James Nibourg

COUNTY COUNCIL – James Nibourg – Erskine South-Warden incumbent (Ward 4)

Why do you want to continue to serve on County council?

I would like to continue to serve as a councillor for the County of Stettler because I do enjoy the opportunity to make a positive impact on the direction our community will grow. I also like interacting with all my neighbours. I truly believe the County of Stettler is the best place on Earth to live, that is because we have the best people in the world right here as neighbours.

What do you feel you have brought to council specifically?

I bring to council the question WHY, and FOLLOW UP.

We as council always should be ready to to challenge the status quo.

Many of my fellow councillors know I am not afraid to ask a question.

FOLLOW UP: it is not always just good enough to just make a decision at council – you must follow up and see if it worked or if it is doing what it was intended to do. Bylaws are only proven to be good or bad when tested.

I also follow up with ratepayer requests – communication must go two ways.

I would say I am most proud of our relationship with the Town of Stettler. Since my time on council both staff and councils from both sides have worked super hard to foster a great relationship. This can be seen in so many joint ventures for advocating to the province. We truly are one community.

If someone were to ask you, ‘Why should I vote for you?’, what would you say?

If you asked why you should vote for me, I would say I work for all 5,566 people in the County of Stettler. There are three types of people. People who watch things happen, people that stand around and say what just happened, and people that make things happen.

I like to make things happen. If an issue arises, I will not promise that I can fix it, but one thing I will promise is that I will try my best.

What is your vision for the community?

I see the County working hard on economic development. We need to diversify our economy. Recreation, value-added farming are just two ways I see as opportunities for our region.

Could you tell me a bit about your professional/work experience?

I wear many hats in my work life, so diversity is the key. I have my own recycling business, custom shear sheep as off-farm work and I am the main labour on our sheep farm. I can understand many different facets of what it takes to run a organization like the County of Stettler.

What ‘fuels’ your inspiration to serve this community?

We have great schools, hospital, recreation, awesome local businesses, great all-around quality of life. I am so glad to call this place home. I for one am super proud of all we have done in the past and continue to do as a community.

There is nothing better to do than represent the people of the County of Stettler.
