The Coronation Hospital and Care Centre will be facing another round of temporary emergency room closures over the next two weeks due to cited “gaps” in physician coverage.
Coronation’s first closure will take place on Monday, Nov. 20 from 8 a.m. to Nov. 21 at 8 a.m.
Another closure will take place from Thursday, Nov. 23 from 8 a.m. until noon on Friday, Nov. 24.
The following week will see similar closures on the following Monday and Thursday.
A final closure will be occurring Dec. 4 at 8 a.m. until Dec. 5 at 8 a.m.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) notes that these closures are a “temporary measure” as it seeks to secure locum coverage.
If any of the gaps in coverage are filled, the service will be restored.
During the closures, the nursing staff will be on-site to assess any patients who present to the emergency department, provide first aid, if needed, and refer them to other facilities in Castor, Hanna, or Stettler as applicable.
If necessary, the ambulance will be contacted to transfer patients to these other facilities.
All other services at Coronation Hospital and Care Centre will remain in operation.
Anyone in the region requiring emergency care during this time is asked to call 911.
Patients needing non-emergent assistance are asked to contact their family physician or Health Link 811, which is available 24-7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.
