A young man has been fined for threatening to kill someone in a home in Donalda last May.
Austin Sean Johnson was fined a total of $900 in Stettler Provincial Court on March 11 after pleading guilty, with $800 for uttering threats to kill and $100 for failing to appear in court.
He reportedly threatened his victims for not paying him money they allegedly owed him.
“He has the right to go to small-claims court if people owe him money,” said Crown Prosecutor Murray McPherson.
Johnson was also placed on one-year probation and ordered by Judge G.E. Deck to not have any contact with the named victims and prohibited from being within 100 meters of the Donalda residence, although, the victim said he has had no contact with these people since the incident.
Patrick A. Sanderson, 40, of Saskatchewan, was fined a total of $2,000 with $1,800 for impaired driving and failing to appear in court after pleading guilty to a charge where he was drinking in his parked truck in Stettler and recorded a breath sample of 260 milligrams.
“You took it upon yourself after the incident to take treatment for your illness,” said Judge Deck.
Blaine Cameron Martens, 39, of the Bashaw area was placed on probation on a 15-month suspended sentence after pleading guilty to assault in which he hit his wife on the back of her head on Feb. 19, 2010, although she was not injured.
“I’m quite concerned that your actions have gone from verbal abuse to physical abuse,” said Judge G.E. Deck.
“That can’t continue,” he added, warning the accused that he faces jail time the next time he repeats this offence.
Martens admitted he has been taking alcohol treatment.
Judge Deck ordered him to abstain from alcohol and weapons and to take counseling and treatment.
Warren Douglas Blonke, 42, of the Ferintosh area was given a conditional discharge and placed on 12-months probation after pleading guilty to assault for grabbing his wife with his arm around her neck on Jan. 2, 2010 although she sustained no injuries.
“I take full responsibility for my actions,” said Blonke.
He was ordered not to have contact with his wife, and prohibited from alcohol and weapons.
“He shows remorse and he is already dealing with his problem of alcohol,” said Judge G.E. Deck.
Sheila Wiest was fined $100 after pleading guilty to theft for stealing $87.30 worth of groceries from No-Frills in Stettler in December 2009.
Judge Deck was light with the fine, considering that she is on social assistance and offered to pay after the incident and she had no previous criminal record.
Craig Beaton was fined $1,500 for pleading guilty to careless operation of a vehicle and suspended from driving for 90 days after he struck the railway overpass on Highway 12 east of Erskine on Oct. 7, 2008.
Cory Alan Heintz was fined $2,875 after pleading guilty to driving a vehicle without insurance.
Diane Lynne Hartley, 55, was fined a total of $150 after pleading guilty to failing to appear in court dating back to 2003.
“I’ve had family issues and a mental health problem and I was confused by some of the court dates,” said Hartley.
“I take full responsibility for my actions.”
