Constable Jon McNickle appointed as new School Resources Officer

Although the school year has come to an end, Constable Jon McNickle was appointed as the new School Resources Officer (SRO) for Clearview.

Although the school year has come to an end, Constable Jon McNickle was appointed as the new School Resources Officer (SRO) for Clearview Public Schools.

"We are very pleased to welcome Jon to Stettler and to Clearview Public Schools," said Peter Barron, superintendent, Clearview Public Schools. "Jon is enthusiastic about community policing, and has already made the rounds of schools in Stettler and the County of Stettler, and I look forward to working with him more next year."

Having been a member of the RCMP for almost five years, Constable McNickle was previously posted as a general duty member in Valleyview, Alberta, but originally, he is from a small town in Ontario.

As a SRO, his role will include many functions – providing a point of contact between the schools and school board and the RCMP; providing education to students on various topics and enforcing the law in and around the schools.

"Further to these roles, I also hope to bring a positive face to the RCMP for the students, and teach them that regardless of the situation, police officers are here to help, and are not people you need to be afraid of," said Constable McNickle. "I'm very excited to be in this role."

According to McNickle, in his previous post, he was assigned to many school functions, including teaching DARE, which he enjoyed, however he was unable to dedicate his time fully to the schools, due to other operational demands.

"Here in Stettler, with this position, I am able to give the schools my full attention and I think that is a great thing for any community to have, and I am very grateful to those who make this position possible," he added. "I will be working in and around several schools in the area – Stettler Elementary, Wm. E. Hay Secondary Campus, Botha School, Byemoor School, Big Valley School, Erskine School, Donalda School, and various colony schools and I look forward to serving these communities."
