Clearview test results rank above provincial average

Students of Clearview School Division have again scored higher on annual examinations for the 2009-2010 school year.

Trustees were presented the Annual Education Results Report (AERR) by Superintendent John Bailey.

“The board salutes the excellent work of our staff, students and the great support of our parents and communities,” said Ken Checkel who chairs the board.

“With everyone working hard and pulling together we are able to consistently perform at a high level.”

The AERR shows the goals set for the division at the beginning of the year and the progress made toward achieving those goals.

Some highlights in the AERR include:

• The provincial achievement tests for grades 3, 6 and 9 and Grade-12 diploma exam results show Clearview students outperformed students elsewhere in Alberta in the acceptable standard in 16 out of a total of 23 tests (including three of the new knowledge and employability Grade-9 courses).

• For the provincial tests, Clearview students outperformed students in the province in the acceptable standard in 11 out of a total of 14 tests.

• For the diploma examinations for Grade-12 students, Clearview students outperformed other students in Alberta in the acceptable standard in five out of a total of 10 examinations (English 30-1 and 30-2, Biology 30, Chemistry 30 and Applied Math 30).

• Results from opinion surveys conducted by the province on questions regarding school safety, citizenship, school improvement, work preparation of students and parental involvement in decision making show that Clearview continues to be better than provincial averages.

• High school completion rates sees Clearview continue to be significantly above the provincial average.

• Drop out-rate – Clearview continues to have a lower rate than the provincial average.

Several areas of growth have been identified as Clearview will continue to work towards exceeding provincial averages for the provincial achievement tests for grades 6 and 9 at the standard of excellence and diploma exams.
