In a statement released on Dec. 23, Indeed.com confimed that “no unauthorized access” or breach of systems occurred.
An investigation of the complaint as reported by Clearview Public Schools indicates that the school division’s account was tampered with through “malicious access by an unauthorized third-party using compromised credentials.”
“We are committed to supporting Clearview Public Schools and their impacted applicants,” said David Fishman, a representative with Indeed.com.

If you are one of an estimated 800 people that has applied to Clearview Public Schools since 2019, your data may be compromised.
Clearview issued a release on Dec. 16 that the third-party recruitment site it uses, Indeed.com, was hacked in between Dec. 13 and Dec. 15.
As of press time, it is unknown what information party, or parties, unknown would have collected or how many individuals may have been affected.
Information that may have been accessed include names, contact information, work history, or other such information which would be on a resume or otherwise provided to a potential employer.
During the breach, in an effort to cover their tracks, the hacker deleted the applicant history which was stored on the website.
Clearview has already begun the process of reviewing applications stored in the school division’s “human services” database to try and identify individuals impacted by this data breach. According to the release, Indeed has also been asked for assistance.
Clearview has suspended the Indeed.com account and email which were associated with the breach, and anyone identified as being potentially impacted by the breach will be contacted by the division.
“We sincerely apologize for the breach in privacy and for those who have trusted us with their information,” said superintendent Scot Leys.
“We take privacy seriously and will be doing everything in our power to respond to this situation, including investigation into the cause of the breach to minimize the risk of a similar event in the future. We will also respond legally if and when that becomes possible.”
Clearview is cautioning individuals who may be impacted to be wary if they “are contacted … relating to a suspicious job opportunity” or if they receive communication demanding personal information through telephone, email, or through Indeed.com.
“We advise you to not click on any links or provide any personal information,” said Leys.
