The Clearview Public Schools board of trustees has approved the projected 2023-24 budget.

As enrolment is projected to be consistent at just short of 2,400 students, Clearview is projecting the budget for the next school year to run at a deficit of around $721,000.

“All decisions that needed to be made were done with input from our leaders and communities. School principals have prepared their staffing and expenditure plans for 2023-24,” said associate Cleaverview superintendent Peter Neale, in a media release.

The projected operating reserve balance for 2023-24 is estimated to be around $930,000 with an allowable maximum of $1.5 million.

Where savings have been found and dollars left unspent in the 2022-23 budget, those dollars have been allocated to the 2023-24 budget citing an anticipated cost escalation in the fuel and utilities budgets.

The release also notes that facilities services are dependent on a planned $276,000 supplement from enrolments and a reserve drawdown of $175,000. A summary of the budget can be found here.

School fees and bus route changes

The Clearview Public Schools board, in a move towards a “framework model” for fees consistent division-wide, has developed a new fee structure, taking into account specific sites, effective for the start of the 2023-24 school year.

As part of the change, bus routes for the communities of Castor, Coronation, and Stettler will be altered slightly beginning in September.

All students in grades Kindergarten to 6 living over one kilometre from their school and all students in Grades 7-12 over two kilometres away from their school will now be eligible for bus transportation.

Education plan

After discussion with the leadership team, families, staff, and communities, Clearview will be focusing its education goals for 2023-26 on:

-Producing high-quality learning environments and experiences.

-Numeracy.

-Literacy.

-Student engagement.

-Mental Health.
