The Board of Trustees has approved a new wellness account available to staff at their regular board meeting on Thursday, April 14.

The amount of up to $50,000 will be available for the period of Sept. 1, 2015 to Aug. 31, 2016.

The funds, which can be accessed on a 'first-come' basis will be limited to $300 per person, for staff to access a 50% reimbursement of activities and purchases related to wellness.

According to Clearview's Health and Wellness Committee, this initiative was implemented in order to help, encourage and reward staff for their healthy choices on a day-to-day basis.

The stated amount is accessible to all regular employees only, which will not include any casual staff.

The budget of $50,000 has been transferred from the unused Health Spending Account dollars and additional dollars unspent in the academic year 2014-15.

Administered in-house, the wellness account will cover eligible health and wellness expenses of the employees that qualify under the established guidelines of the program, and has been considered to be a one-time pilot program for 2015-16.

Among the eligible expenses are health support and related services, fitness and sport activity memberships and lessons, fitness and sports equipment and professional development in areas of health and wellness.
