Students from around Clearview Public Schools came together on Oct. 8 for a Headstrong Mental Health Summit.
Done in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, the summit is a way to get youth talking about mental health and mental illness.
A pair of students served as emcees for the event which brought together several speakers with lived experiences to share.
Stettler's own Scott Douglas served as the keynote speaker for the event, and other speakers included JD Hunter, Gord Lawlor, Blair Charters and Faith Shuckburgh.
The 70 or so students weren't left sitting all day; at several points throughout the day there were activity breaks featuring dancing and other movements to get the blood flowing.
Following the breakout sessions where the speakers shared their stories, all the students came together for a taco-in-a-bag lunch followed by a panel of speakers where students could ask questions about living with or dealing with mental health.
At the conclusion of the panel, all the speakers and students worked together to come up with mental health action plans.
The day wrapped up around 2 p.m.
Clearview's Caring and Resilient Students (CARS) program is hoping to make this an annual event.
