During the most reading Clearview Public Schools Board of Trustees meeting, the 2023-24 was a major topic.

The overall budget will remain stable at approximately $38 million for the 2023-24 school year, despite what is described as a “slight enrollment dip.”

Included in the budget is a two per cent staff pay increase and $75,000 worth of investment in principal support and equipment upgrades.

Thanks to increased transportation investment revenues, the overall deficit is dropping to $380,938. As part of transportation, three new bus routes have been added for the school year and five new buses are being purchased.

In the budget, $500,000 is being earmarked for facility improvements and increasing capital reserves.

Archery

The board has granted preliminary approval for a contingent of archers from Wm. E. Hay Secondary School in Stettler to travel to Moose Jaw, Sask., for the Archery Nationals in 2024.

Archers from Grades 7-12 will be eligible to attend, “showing their skills on a national stage.”

“The board recognizes the importance of such experience in fostering student development and is committed to supporting this initiative,” states the board highlights release.

Food bank

Trustees Kim Smyth and Becky Scott, along with representatives from the Alberta Teachers Association and the Canadian Union of Public Employees presented Mark Higgins and Ken Bellows of the Stettler Food Bank with a donation cheque.

In addition to the donation, the board has donated copies of the book Merry Christmas Curious George for the Christmas hampers.

Trustees Erika Grice, Kim Smyth, and Shauna-lee Thomas will be taking donation cheques to the food banks in Castor, Coronation and Big Valley.

Dual Credit

Clearview Public Schools is entering a partnership for dual-credit programming with Red Deer Polytechnic beginning in February of 2024.

The course offerings will include Psychology, Sociology, Personal Finance and an introduction to health Care Aide.

If things progress as hoped, Clearview plans to offer the complete Health Care Aide certification by June 2026.
