Change of heart nixes bail for meth lab accused

Larry Watson, one of the four arrested north of Stettler in a drug bust operation, remains behind bars.

Despite a judge agreeing to the judicial release plan devised by his counsel, Larry Watson, one of the four arrested north of Stettler in a drug bust operation, remains behind bars.

The original bail conditions as agreed by the judge and Watson's counsel included a long and stringent set of restrictions, essentially confining Watson to house-arrest until trial, estimated to take place at the end of 2017.

One of the key elements to the release plan was Watson's property. As sole owner of the property where the crimes allegedly took place, Watson would be able to offer up the property as a surety to ensure he heeded his release conditions. Should he break those conditions, the court would be able to seize the property.

While originally agreeing to these conditions, Watson later changed his mind about the property as surety, and so the judicial release plan fell through. Thus, Watson remains in custody.

Watson's co-accused James Hall has been released on conditions, while Victor Foley and Colin Wilford remain in remand as well.
