The Town of Castor had a fairly light agenda for its July 8 council meeting.

After previously approving three sections of sidewalk to be replaced using grant funding, town council received word that tenders for the project had been received totalling $53,000.

The approved budget, and expected grant, for the project, was $50,000.

"We have to do it," said Mayor Richard Elhard, in a follow-up interview.

Ultimately, the $3,000 overage was approved to complete the project to come from municipal reserves.

Paintearth Adult Learning

Council also received a letter from Paintearth Adult Learning, requesting permission to paint its Castor board room.

The request noted that the room would be painted the same colours as the offices which were previously painted in 2021 and that the organization would supply the paint and do all the work.

Noting no cost to the town, the request was approved.

McMan Family Resource Centre

The McMan Family Resource Centre submitted a request to council to have the rental fee waived for the rental of the Golden Circle/Castor FCSS Building.

According to the request for council decision (RCD),  McMan would like to run cooking and baking programs on five dates over the summer similar to what FCSS already does during the school year at no charge.

Council was uncomfortable with the prospect of not charging for rent, plus having to absorb the cleaning costs, so the request was denied.
