The winner of people’s choice award – This historic fire truck that travelled from Camrose to be displayed at Stettler’s annual Show and Shine weekend was voted the best exhibit by the visitors.

Classic vehicles and a trip down the memory lane was the spotlight for the annual Stettler Show and Shine on June 19 hosted by Stettler Auto Club at Stettler Mall parking lot.

“We had about 70 vehicles, around the same as last year but more than in previous years,” said Shawn Lee, vice-president of Stettler Auto Club.

Vehicles dating as far back as 1928 and as new as 2009 were featured as owners traveled from the Stettler area were joined by those in Camrose, Red Deer, Innisfail and other parts of central Alberta and Saskatchewan to take part in the show that continues to grow.

“We have a good location on the main highway and the cruise to Big Valley is always a popular part of the event,” said Lee.

“It’s a hobby that’s growing– something you can always tinker in your garage.”

“Some of these vehicles get more valuable the older they get,” said Lee.

A fire truck dragster of Camrose Fire and Rescue was the people’s choice as the best vehicle displayed.

Just four other awards were presented as follows:

Club choice was a 1954 Ford Skyliner owned by Charlie Nichols.

Best Ford was a 1934 Ford roadster owned by Roger Nichols.

Best Dodge was a 1973 Dodge Challenger owned by Jon Nichols.

Best Chevrolet was a 1959 Chev Impala owned by Peter Pollok.

After the show, vehicles were on parade around Stettler before the traditional trip to Big Valley for further festivities, fun and food.

During the day, the club also raised funds for Stettler-based Dual Dragons Tae Kwon Do members Dave Hargreaves and Cade Bengert who will compete at the world championships in September in Telford, England, although no figures were confirmed, said Lee.
