Local rock'n'roll band Wheel House entertain crowds at West Stettler Park on Friday

Though Canada Day on Friday, July 1 remained sunny and warm for the majority of the festivities, by evening the sky clouded up just in time for the Wheel House concert at West Stettler Park.

A bit of rain didn’t deter the festivities, though, as crowds simply pulled out umbrellas and settled to enjoy the music, a mix of ’70s, ’80s and ’90s rock’n’roll.

The concert began at 8 p.m. and went on until shortly after 11 p.m., with a brief intermission during which local youth musicians Jessica and Caylen Skaley took the stage to play covers of more recent musical hits on their guitars, their young voices carrying across the crowd.

Special birthday cupcakes were given out after the singing of the national anthem shortly before the sky truly began to darken, signalling the start of the colourful fireworks display.

At 11, the Town of Stettler set off fireworks from the west side of West Stettler Park, brightening the evening sky and defying the drizzle of rain that had been on-and-off all weekend with a display of bright reds, blues, whites, greens and golds.
