Battle River School Division (BRSD) is one of the many divisions nationwide that has been impacted by the cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, a popular software for managing student information.
BRSD notes that it was notified of the breach, one of hundreds impacted across North America, but has been assured by PowerSchool that "immediate action" was taken in the wake of the unauthorized access.
"The breach is now contained," notes the release. "PowerSchool confirmed that whatever data the unauthorized user accessed has been deleted and that no copies of that information were shared online."
According to the release, no sensitive information such as credit card, banking information, student profile information or passwords were accessed.
"BRSD is committed to transparency and will provide updates if any new information arises," concludes the release. "We understand the concern this situation may cause and are taking all necessary steps to address it responsibly."
East Central Catholic Schools was also affected by the PowerSchool breach.
In a separate release, Stettler-based Clearview Public Schools noted that it had confirmed with PowerSchool that the breach had not affected it.
