The Blackfalds RCMP and regional Community Peace Officers conducted joint check stops and roving patrols in the community to mark National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.

National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day is recognized on May 20 across Canada.

As a result of the officer’s efforts, several fines and suspensions were issued.

Officers issued three 24-hour suspensions, two roadside sanctions, one commercial driver was given a three-day suspension, one graduated driver was suspended due to alcohol, and multiple other violations under the Traffic Safety Act were issued along with several tickets for transporting open alcohol in a vehicle.

“Impaired driving is the leading cause of criminal death in Canada,” said Cpl. Dallas Trail, of the Blackfalds RCMP.

“Although we are proud of our enforcement successes, it reminds us that impaired driving continues to be an issue in our community.”
