Big Valley's Jubilee Hall donned a festive look on Sunday evening, Dec. 4 as seniors from the community and members of the Drop-In Centre started arriving for the Christmas supper.

"This is the annual Christmas party for the seniors drop-in group to socialize and catch up," said Lynne Gjaltema, president of Drop-In for eight years now. "We've held this event for a long time now. It is free for members only."

However, Gjaltema explained that each member had to pay $10, which was actually their membershio fees for the following year, and there was another donation jar where the Drop-In was collecting funds for the Big Valley Food Bank.

For supper it was the whole works, as Head Chef Catrina Dubitz and her team worked on a 25-pound turkey since 10 a.m. that day.

"We will be serving turkey with mashed potatoes and vegetables, lettuce and macaroni salads and cheese cake for dessert," said Dubitz.

This year was the first time that the event was being held at the Jubilee Hall, said Gjaltema.

"We used to host it at the Drop-In, but for the sake of convenience we will be holding it here in the future too," Gjaltema added. "Currently there are 66 members and we are expecting around 50-60 to show up."

Drop-In Secretary Trudy Spence said, "I've been a member for six years and took on the position of secretary for one year now. Am really looking forward to the evening and to socialize with the members."
