Stettler ‘never stops’ giving and supporting its own.

“Having just a spent a week with my grown-up kids and their families visiting here, I can pass on more appreciation of this community from their perspective – a community with lots of kid-friendly parks and pools,” explained Betty Birch, manager of the Stettler Food Bank.

”A community with fun and trendy shopping opportunities – with no parking issues or traffic jams. And a community where ‘Grandma knows everybody’!

Birch also noted that she knows this community as one which never stops giving and supporting its families in need – specifically through the Stettler & District Food Bank.

“In tough economic times over the past couple of years, we continued to receive financial support as well as food donations from businesses, organizations and individuals. We are able to help people who may have stumbled along their way because the people in this town and county care.”

There is also pretty much anything to help keep local families engaged and involved.

Laura Norman, adult literacy coordinator at the Stettler Learning Centre, said, “When my husband and I got married, we could have moved anywhere in the world but, here we are, living in the small town that he grew up in, and we are still happy here!

“We even tried to live in Cochrane for one year with our three kids; we didn’t make it even 12 months before selling our house there and moving back to Stettler,” she explained. “I feel incredibly blessed to live here since in many other parts of the world, it’s not very safe, especially for kids.

“Our kids have always had the freedom to work, play, learn, bike, walk and socialize in a safe environment and we don’t take that for granted. I love that there are so many extra-curricular activities for our children to do - it’s absolutely endless and we have many talented leaders and instructors that provide high-quality programs.”

Norman said her kids have been involved in curling, badminton, volleyball, choir, piano, swim club, yoga and the list goes on, she added.

“There is hardly anything that you can’t do - and if there is something missing, Red Deer is only an hour away! Our kids also have a great school that has created a great foundation for our oldest who is in post-secondary and continues to do great things with our youngest two.”

Norman added that working in Stettler is also fantastic as she works with some of the best Stettlerites there are.

“I feel safe at work and I love to help the people in our community. Everyone is so thankful for the services at the Stettler Learning Centre and we get tons of word-of-mouth referealls. The commute isn’t bad either!

“Stettler is also located far enough away from other larger towns that it has many amenities so I don’t often have to go out of our town to find things that I need. The shopping in Stettler is great and seems to get better and better!

“I’m also so happy that our downtown is thriving. We always do our best to buy local and Stettler makes it easy!

Norman pointed out that she is also able to source good food within a 50 km radius.

“I buy my flour, garlic, beef, chicken and much more from independent producers. Not only am I supporting my local producers, I’m feeding my family well and buying high quality products.”
