A man who attacked a Stettler police officer at the local police station will pay a hefty price.
Robert Wagner, 40, of Lethbridge was fined $1,500 in Stettler Provincial Court on June 10 after pleading guilty to the incident in 2008 when he was initially charged with impaired driving.
“He pushed the officer all over the room,” said Judge D.G. Scollie.
“I think at his age he should realize that alcohol is a problem for him.”
The Crown Prosecutor asked for a heavy fine for this situation.
“Any assault against a police officer should be taken very seriously,” said the Crown Prosecutor.
Donald Marvin Peterson was fined $1,200 after pleading guilty to driving with a blood-alcohol content over .08 milligrams on April 24, 2010 and was suspended from driving for two years. His lowest reading was 120.
Lorrie Eileen Wasyk, 52, was fined a total of $600 after pleading guilty to two counts of careless driving in March and May. In the first incident, she was driving about three kilometres an hour on a highway and on the side of the road and in the second she rear-ended a police car while she was stopped at a roadcheck.
“That kind of driving is a danger to you and other people,” said Judge Scollie.
She admitted to the bad driving behavior.
“I made a mistake,” said Wasyk.
“I drove carelessly and now I am paying the price.”
Troy Roger Donofrio was fined a total of $600 after pleading guilty to three separate charges, with $200 fines each for two counts of failing to appear in court related to Lac la Biche and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Rene Lucien Hebert was fined $600 for stunting on a highway after pleading guilty for an incident on Highway 56 north of Stettler last December late at night when a passing female motorist was frightened.
Robert Ray Johnston, 18, was fined $150 after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana for an incident on April 19 in Stettler, where police discovered three grams of marijuana and three smoke pipes in his vehicle. Johnston was cooperative with police.
“You were honest with the police so I will give you a lighter fine,” said Judge Scollie.
Alix Gary Larson was issued a peace bond for one year after pleading guilty to charges of assault and mischief to property which were dropped.
