Beautiful weather enhanced the third annual Stettler Art Walk on Main Street on downtown on Saturday, June 5.

“All the presenting artists heard only positive comments about the art walk and the works,” said Andrea Hatch, owner of local art gallery on Main Street, member of the Stettler Downtown Business Association, a partner in the event with the Town of Stettler.

With warm sunny weather, the art walk featured 30 artists, down from 53 from last year.

“All the artists were very happy with the event despite the low numbers of participants and people,” said Hatch.

She noted that other arts events were held in central Alberta and in Calgary which drew many artists away from Stettler for the weekend.

“It would have been good to get more artists but there were many other art events that weekend,” said Hatch.

Ideally, the art walk would best be staged the final weekend of May, she added.

Most of the artists featured were from the Stettler area and east-central Alberta.

“It’s great to see local artists and we even had some visitors from Oyen and Saskatchewan.”

She is optimistic that the event will continue next year with some changes to draw more artists and visitors.

Local artists showcased their variety of paintings and handcrafts.

“The art walk is a very good opportunity to who the community what we have to offer in arts and the diversity of art we have in the Stettler area,” said Vivian Bennett who with her husband Ed, is very active with promoting art at Heartland Youth Centre in Stettler.

However, she wants to see the art walk grow.

“The whole Main Street should be full to showcase arts of all kind of art, including performing arts such as drama and music.”

“It’s a wonderful show and I wanted to be part of the festivities and meet people,” said Wanda Watson of Stettler.

“I love to show my art and talk and people and get together with other artists,” said Margi Matkea of Coronation, participating in the event since it started.
