Stettler’s “Heart of Alberta Dollars” program had another record-breaking year.
Managing to top 2020’s $83,000, the numbers are in for the 2021 holiday season and according to the Stettler Board of Trade (BOT) the total number of “Stettler Bucks” sold came in at $300 under $90,000.
“It was a phenomenal year,” said BOT executive director Byron Geddes.
“It was a really good Christmas season. We’re super pleased with the community. They’ve really stepped up to embrace the shop local experience.”
Backed by the BOT and the Community Development office, Heart of Alberta Dollars are gift certificates that can be purchased at the BOT and spent at participating community businesses as a way to encourage shopping local.
“Well over fifty” businesses participate in the program, according to Geddes.
While mainly a holiday season promotion, the gift certificates can be used year round, and don’t expire.
In fact, according to Geddes, people should check their wallets as the BOT still has Heart of Alberta Dollars on the books from eight years ago that have not been used.
“They are good as gold,” said Geddes.
“They are always able to use those in the community.”
