Anonymous tip leads to arrest of man banned from Stettler

James Hall is back behind bars again after violating conditions of his release.

James Hall is back behind bars again after violating conditions of his release.

Hall, who was arrested in February as a result of a methamphetamine lab bust north of Stettler, had charges relating to the bust dropped after he pleaded guilty to other offences. As part of his release conditions, Hall was required to remain away from both the town and county of Stettler.

On Saturday, police received an anonymous tip that Hall was in the community. Police attended the area and located Hall, who was arrested without incident, RCMP Cpl. Cameron Russell said.

Hall appeared before a Justice of the Peace, who remanded him in custody until his next appearance at Provincial Court.

COP program in Big Valley spots impaired driver

The Community on Patrol program, which runs out of Stettler but has several rural communities starting affiliate programs, had just gotten on its feet in Big Valley when a patrolling pair of volunteers spotted what they believed was a suspicious vehicle.

The pair called the tip in to RCMP, who headed to Big Valley and located the vehicle, Russell said.

The 73-year-old driver, a man from Eckville, was arrested for impaired driving. He was taken to the RCMP detachment in Stettler where breath samples were taken. According to Russell, the man's blood-alcohol reading wasn't too high over the limit, but it was over the limit, and the man had his licence suspended and will appear in court.
