Fines and sentences for several charges related to alcohol and impaired driving were handed down in Stettler Provincial Court on March 25 where the judge again expressed frustration with the abusive substance.
Gerald James Honshuh, 74, was fined $1,000 after pleading guilty to impaired operation of a vehicle on March 8 at 3:30 p.m.
“You’re old enough to have known better,” Judge Jim Hunter said to the accused.
“You’re right,” Hunshuh responded with a light chuckle in his voice, admitting his fault.
With a reading of 130 milligram, over the legal limit of 80 mg, he was also suspended from driving for one year, although duty counsel said he plans to quit driving as a result.
John Lowell Parks, 22, was fined $1,100 after pleading guilty to driving over .08 with a reading of 160 mg on Dec. 24.
“I don’t know what it will take people to understand that you don’t drink and drive,” said Judge Hunter.
Parks was also suspended from driving for one year.
Tyler Daniel Beattie, 22, was fined $1,250 after pleading guilty to driving with a blood alcohol content exceeding .08. on Feb. 8 in Bashaw.
He registered 190 mg., which the judge stated is legally an aggravating amount by law.
Beattie was also suspended from driving for one year.
Lonnie James Hallett was fined $2,000 after pleading guilty to careless driving in a incident on March 20, 2009.
Thomas W. Marshall was fined $287 for open liquor in a vehicle, in which he pleaded guilty.
Curtis Bunz was fined $150 for being intoxicated in a public place after pleading guilty.
Kristopher Wayne Grams was fined a total of $402 under the Traffic Safety Act, with $230 for displaying unauthorized licence plate on his vehicle and $172 for failing to show the proof of vehicle insurance.
