A rather quiet week for RCMP

For the month of January, Stettler RCMP detachment and Traffic Services will focus on intersection safety. Police remind drivers that while intersections can be dangerous, they can takes steps to avoid collisions.

For the month of January, Stettler RCMP detachment and Traffic Services will focus on intersection safety. Police remind drivers that while intersections can be dangerous, they can takes steps to avoid collisions.

Be especially careful at intersections and check for other traffic or pedestrians twice before proceeding through intersections regardless of the traffic light colour. Be prepared for the unexpected and share the road safely.

To be a defensive driver do not run red lights, roll through a stop signs, speed through intersections, follow too closely, make unsafe left-hand turns, or rely on having the right of way.

ASSAULT

Police responded to a disturbance involving a knife in the 4700 block of 55 Street in Stettler at about 4 p.m. on Jan. 11. A 15-year-old male was arrested and escorted to the station. After witnesses were spoken to, the Stettler youth was released with strict conditions into the custody of his parents. He will appear in local youth court on Feb. 9 to face charges for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats.

THEFT

Two attempted break-ins occurred in the Stettler Mall on Jan. 5. Culprits also attempted to gain entry into a retail store and an office sometime during the previous weekend, Jan 2 - 5.

A boat house along Bay View Street at the Summer Village of Rochon Sands was broken into on Jan. 7 and property was stolen. Also in the same village, along Lakeview Drive, a home owner found his snow blower had been stolen on Jan. 8 after it was left unattended in the driveway.
