It was another good year for the 9th annual Canada Day Family Fun Run. This year we (Stettler Crossfit) partnered with the Stettler Health Services Foundation. They helped us with volunteers and ran a hot dog barbecue.

Lots of families got to run on a beautiful sunny morning.

New this year was a running challenge that led up to the event called the Run 50/50.

CJ Oprea and Carly Armstrong created/organized the event. The goal was to give people several reasons to run. Participants paid a $20 buy in where $10 went to the Stettler Health Services Foundation and $10 went to the pot for the winner. Participants track each kilometre they walked or ran in the entire month of June and for every 10km they did, they got their name into the draw for pot.

With 69 participants, $690 was raised for the Alberta Health Services Foundation. In total everyone walked/ran a total of 3,800 km in June.

There were 380 names in the draw for $690 and the lucky winner was Carly Armstrong.

The Canada Day Fun Run winners are: Half marathon mens - Ian Blokeland (1:28:47), women’s - Dianne Wilson (1:54:45); 10 km men’s - Riley Cornelssen (41:54), women’s - Kim Chapman (53:00); 5 km men’s - Stefan Oprea (20:40), women’s - Ashley Lang (25:09); 2 km (kids race) boys - Cruz Stoutenburg (9:22), girls - Lil Ducarme (11); 1 km (kids race) - boys - Rex Curtis (5:49), girls - Leah Syson (6:24).
