Thanks to some dedicated community volunteers, a park in Stettler has a new look.
After months of fundraising, Stettler's Rosedale community's new, fully-accessible playground is nearing completion.
Fundraised as a joint project between the Stettler Kinsmen and the Stettler Kinettes, the contractor supplying the new playground did some initial prep work Sept. 9 and 10 before volunteers, assisted by multiple town businesses and the town itself, took over the work.
Volunteers began a three-day build from Sept. 11-13.
"The park still isn't open," said Kinsmen president Kirk Blake.
Before the park can open, some rubber safety paving and asphalt have to be laid down says Blake, but the park should be open to the public after the first or second week of October.
The plan is also to get some more landscaping done, with the addition of a few trees to the park as well.
According to Blake, the $350,000 was made possible through town, government, and "great corporate support."
"The fundraisers did well," said Blake.
"It was definitely a whole town effort."
While the play structure will be available for children beginning this fall, the plan is to hold a grand opening, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, in the spring.
